Rachel Gillig's Midnight Release Party for The Knave and the Moon Is Happening 🌙🕯️
THANH VY VUONGShare
Hello, lovely reader —
We don't say this lightly: the wait for The Knave and the Moon is almost over. Rachel Gillig's sequel to The Knight and the Moth releases on September 1st, 2026, and the celebrations have already begun — including one event that has the romantasy corner of the internet very, very excited.
🌒 The Wait Is (Almost) Over
If you've followed the Stonewater Kingdom series, you'll know the stakes this book is carrying. Aisling Cathedral lies in ruins, Sybil Delling has been forced into a marriage with the very king she's determined to undo, and a mysterious knave with no name and no memory has risen through the ranks of a deadly tournament. It's everything fans loved about The Knight and the Moth — gothic atmosphere, slow-burn tension, morally grey everything — turned up several notches.
🕯️ A Midnight Release Party in NYC
For readers in or near New York City, Barnes & Noble Union Square is hosting a Midnight Release Celebration for The Knave and the Moon on Monday, August 31st, starting at 9:30PM, running through the official release at midnight. The evening includes games, crafts, and a live Q&A with Rachel Gillig herself — and pre-signed exclusive edition copies will be handed out to attendees right at midnight to mark the release.
For anyone who can't make it in person, there's also an option to have a signed exclusive edition shipped to you, so the celebration doesn't have to be limited to one city. Tickets are available now via Eventbrite, and given how this series tends to sell out events, we wouldn't wait too long to decide.
🏡 Celebrating From Anywhere Else
Not in New York? You're far from alone — and honestly, a midnight release doesn't require a plane ticket. Some of the best release-night traditions are the ones readers create themselves: a candlelit countdown to midnight, a playlist that matches the book's mood, snacks prepped in advance so nothing pulls you away from page one. If you've got a reading group or even just a few online friends who've been waiting for this book as long as you have, a shared midnight read-along can feel just as special as being in the room.
🫖 Setting the Scene
Whatever your version of release night looks like, having the right pieces on hand makes it feel like an occasion rather than just another Monday. Our Rachel Gillig Collection has a few pieces that pair well with a long, atmospheric reading session — soft layers for staying up past midnight, and mugs built for the kind of tea that gets cold because you forgot about it three chapters ago.
September 1st is closer than it feels. However you mark it — queuing in New York, reading by candlelight at home, or simply finally getting around to The Knight and the Moth before the sequel arrives — we'd love to hear about it. Are you team "stay up for midnight" or team "read it properly with coffee the next morning"? Let us know.
With love, The Bean Workshop 🫘
