Icebreaker Is Officially Skating Its Way to Netflix

THANH VY VUONG

Hello, lovely reader ⛸️

If your BookTok feed has been one long scream of joy lately, we know exactly why. Icebreaker, Hannah Grace's breakout hockey romance, is officially headed to Netflix.

🏒 The Announcement

Netflix confirmed the series adaptation at the Banff World Media Festival, with Alex Cooper's Unwell Productions on board and Amanda Lasher — known for her work on Gossip Girl and The Bold Type — set as showrunner. Jade Bartlett has written the pilot and will continue writing the series alongside Lasher.

The story follows Anastasia Allen, a competitive figure skater with Olympic dreams, and Nate Hawkins, a hockey captain chasing the NHL — two athletes forced to share the same rink after a facilities mishap throws their carefully mapped-out plans into chaos. If you've read the book, you already know exactly how much tension one shared rink can hold.

📖 Why This One Matters

Icebreaker isn't just a fan favourite — it's a genuine BookTok phenomenon, having sold millions of copies and topped bestseller lists since its release, later expanding into the wider Maple Hills series. Its jump to Netflix places it alongside a growing wave of hockey and sports romance adaptations, joining an ever-expanding list of book-to-screen romances readers have been rooting for.

🎬 What We Don't Know Yet

No casting has been announced, and an official premiere date hasn't been confirmed — filming is expected to begin later this year, so it may be a little while before we get our first real look at Anastasia and Nate. We'll be watching closely for updates.

🧣 In the Meantime

There's nothing quite like re-reading a favourite before its screen debut — ideally with your coziest blanket, a good mug, and maybe a highlighter for your favourite lines. Our Cosy Reading Accessories were made for exactly this kind of anticipation-fuelled reread.

Sharpen your skates, lovely reader — we have a feeling this one's going to take over our feeds for a while.
